Ben Rouzie works almost exclusively with wildlife subject matter, and usually with colored pencils, although he began working with pastels for the TIME show in 2011.
He is one of the only artists who came from a family of artists — his father is well-known maritime artist T.W. Rouzie. Ben Rouzie usually works quite small and is kept very busy at Snake River C.I. doing commissioned works for fellow prisoners and prison staff. He says he does not copy photos but works from combinations of photos as well as from memory; he is an avid fisherman and fellow anglers still eagerly collect his work which is very affordably priced.
